Crafts

All crafters are selected on the basis of there being very little income (and no other means of income) in the home. All craft projects are overseen by Crafts Coordinator, Durban artist, Leonie Malherbe.  Leonie comes once a month to Woza Moya for two days to monitor and oversee all crafts.  She also runs training courses as required.

Hand embroidered squares are made by the PLWAs support group members, and are presented in different ways:

  • as greeting cards
    in small frames
    on bags (large & small)

The knitting group, consisting of grannies from the Chibini community, produces beanies and scarves, some with crocheted flowers attached.

Villagers from vulnerable households and those who are HIV positive are encouraged to get involved in making sock monkeys.
