5th South African National AIDS Conference

Attended by Jane, Benedicta, Sue and Sandy Dixon, our volunteer consultant Nursing Sister in Durban with the theme 'Leadership, Delivery and Accountability'.  We now have political will and leadership in South Africa, in respect of HIV and AIDS, and what a difference this has made.

Many successes were celebrated, such as, increased access to treatment, prices of ARVs halved, PMTCT programme greatly reducing vertical HIV transmission, 12 million South Africans tested for HIV in the past year and fantastic initial results from the HIV Prevention Trials Network, showing a 96% reduction in the transmission of HIV.  However many challenges still remain and we must continue to be vigilant if we are going to defeat this disease.
